Here is an idea for a great summer gift. I couldn’t sit still just watching my tomatoes. Grow your own tomatoes and basil and watch the cycle of life with the kids for about 2 months. Be patient, can’t rush this one. From a seed, to a leaf, to plant, to a flower, to a tomato and to your hands… ready to make the sauce.

Ingredients

  • 40 Cherry tomatoes (approx)
  • 6 Finely chopped basil leaves
  • 3 Mashed garlic gloves
  • 2 Teaspoons of Olive Oil
  • Salt to taste

First wash the tomatoes. Cut half of the amount of tomatoes in halves (20), the rest place them in the blender and make a puree. On a saucepan heat the 2 teaspoons of Olive Oil with the garlic, sauté the garlic and place the cherry tomatoes halves in the saucepan, turn and cook slowly for about 7 minutes. Then add the puree tomato, bring to a boil and add the chopped basil. Cook in low for about 2 hours.

Enjoy.

Or you can make it a gift like we did, just have the kids decorate a recycled glass jar and place the tomato sauce in it. They will love it!
